If you are a business owner in the 21st century, you probably have a website.

It seems like common sense at this point that a website will help you increase your reach and get your firm in front of more eyeballs, especially if you have a niche!

What may not be common sense is the need for two other crucial aspects of marketing.

  1. An email list, full of leads that you will (ideally) ultimately convert into paying clients

  2. A sales funnel including a sequence of emails that will encourage that lead to work with you

You may be wondering if an email list is necessary if you are running your firm solo, or if you don't intend to take on any more clients right now.

My advice to you is this: Never turn off your sales funnel. It is so much better to have too many leads than not enough!

Like I said before, you need an email list for your firm - no matter how many clients you currently have or wish to take on in the future.

You may be wondering why you'd need emails if you do most of your marketing at an in-person networking event, or on Instagram, or by word of mouth, etc.

Here's the thing...

What if those networking events suddenly stopped happening? (Pandemic, anyone?)

What if Instagram crashed or got shut down?

What if people stopped telling their friends how great you are? (Unlikely, but you get it 😉)

At the end of the day, an email list is the only thing you truly own in terms of marketing.

Your trusty subscribers will be there by your side!

True, they do have the option to unsubscribe, but sending them VALUE in a newsletter is the best way to stay top of mind!

You never know when someone on your list may need your services, and they'll turn to you!

A sales funnel is part of a marketing strategy that attracts leads and takes them from cold lead to warm lead to client!

An evergreen sales funnel is one that never expires, or goes out of date.

There can be benefits to sales funnels that are specific, though! You may have a lead magnet about how to survive tax season in 2022 which brings in a ton of new leads at once.

But the idea here is that you always maintain one funnel that works year round, and layering in the time-sensitive offers as you wish!

How to set up an email sales sequence

Setting up an email sequence starts with actually WRITING the emails!

If you aren't a big fan of writing yourself, you can easily outsource this to a copywriter contractor. You don't need a super long sequence - 5 emails will do!

There is no right or wrong when it comes to email topic, sequence length, number of emails, etc.

You just have to start somewhere and adjust as you go!

Hot tip: If you create an email sequence that isn't converting, don't go in and make a bunch of changes! Change one thing at a time so you can measure which change increased the conversions.
